Terms of service

The service

  • MessyDev is an interactive learning platform that teaches AI, building, and launching software through guided lessons, simulated exercises, and optional connections to your own tools (GitHub, Vercel, and others).
  • Practice exercises are simulations. Build Room actions are real and run against your own accounts, only when you explicitly trigger them.

Your account

  • You must provide a valid email address and keep your credentials private.
  • You're responsible for everything that happens under your account.
  • Owner and mentor features are restricted to explicitly designated accounts.

Subscriptions & billing

  • Pro is billed monthly or annually through Stripe. Prices are shown before you pay.
  • You can cancel any time from your account page; access continues until the end of the paid period.
  • If a payment fails, Pro features pause until the payment succeeds.

Connected tools

  • When you connect GitHub, Vercel, or similar services, you grant MessyDev permission to act on those accounts only for the actions you trigger in the app.
  • Your use of those services is governed by their own terms.
  • You can disconnect at any time, which deletes the stored token.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use MessyDev to break the law, attack systems, scrape the platform, or abuse the AI features.
  • Don't share accounts or resell access.
  • We may suspend accounts that violate these rules.

AI content

  • Messy's answers are AI-generated and can be wrong. Verify anything important — especially code, security, and legal or financial topics — before relying on it.
  • Drafts Messy writes for you (launch posts, listings, code) are yours to use.

Liability

  • MessyDev is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, or issues arising from third-party services you connect.

Who you are dealing with (EU Digital Services Act)

  • MessyDev is operated by Mike Perkins, trading as MessyDev, based in the United States.
  • Reach the operator any time through the contact form at messydev.com/contact — messages go straight to the operator and are answered by email.
  • MessyDev is a small platform: it is not a very large online platform under the DSA and has no monthly-active-user reporting obligation, but the notice, appeal and transparency rights below apply regardless of size.

Reporting illegal content, and appeals

  • Anyone can report a community post, comment, profile or shared project through messydev.com/contact using the “Report illegal or harmful content” option. Describe what you saw, where, and why you believe it is unlawful.
  • Reports are reviewed by a person, not automatically. We confirm receipt, decide without undue delay, and explain the outcome by email.
  • If we remove your content, restrict your account, or refuse a report, we tell you why. You can challenge that decision for six months using the “Appeal a moderation decision” option, and a person who was not involved in the original decision reviews it.
  • Measures we can take: removing a post, hiding a profile, limiting posting, suspending or closing an account. Repeatedly posting manifestly illegal content leads to suspension.
  • You can also take a dispute to an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified in your EU member state, or to your national court. Nothing here removes that right.

EU & UK consumers: cancelling and refunds

  • If you live in the EU or UK, you have 14 days to withdraw from a Pro subscription. Because Pro gives you immediate access to digital content, you ask us to start straight away and accept that the withdrawal right ends once access has begun — you confirm this when you check out.
  • In practice we are more generous: ask within 14 days of your first payment and we refund it in full, used or not. Write to us through messydev.com/contact.
  • Statutory rights for faulty digital services (EU Digital Content Directive, UK Consumer Rights Act) apply on top of anything written here.
  • The EU online dispute resolution platform is at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

Advertising, recommendations and profiling

  • MessyDev shows no third-party advertising and does not sell your data.
  • The only personalisation is your own learning path: which lesson Messy suggests next is based on the exercises you finished and where you struggled. You can ignore it and pick any open lesson yourself.
  • There is no profiling of children and no ad targeting based on sensitive data.

Changes & contact

  • We may update these terms; material changes will be announced by email before taking effect.
